Fishing

Those who’ve fished along the Macquarie River often refer to it as “cod’s country” – it’s that good! And the Yellowbelly aren’t far behind. Make sure you bone up on how to tell the difference between Murray cod and Trout cod. The Macquarie River boasts both, but Trout cod are a threatened species and must be released, unharmed immediately.

So when you’re heading our way make sure to pack the fishing gear, plan to stay a while, and fish your way from Lake Burrendong to the Barwon, over 500 kilometres of prime, heavily snagged fish haven. Try Burrendong before you head downstream – it has great fishing too.
