Nature
If you like to get up close and personal with nature and wildlife, then the central west is for you. Enjoy a walk through the Lake Burrendong Arboretum and Botanic Gardens to see the regions’ plant life, teeming with birds as well. Our Bird Watching trail is also not to be missed.
Around Wellington platypus are often seen at dawn and dusk before you head for Dubbo and the amazing Taronga Western Plains Zoo. Check out our Education Trail as well – it has lots of other locations where you can enjoy nature.
If you like wetlands, then don’t miss the Rotary wetland in Narromine or Tiger Bay Wetlands in Warren. Beside this wetland sits the Window on the Wetlands Centre – a must see!
Then, on to the Macquarie Marshes, with its remarkable birdlife and other wetland wildlife. Be warned though in this hot part of the state the Marshes aren’t always wet, so best to check before heading out into this frontier country.
