The area covered by these trails starts from LakeBurrendong near Wellington and follows the MacquarieRiver for close to 400 kilometres, through Dubbo, Narromine and Warren to the World famous wetlands of the Macquarie Marshes.

The Bird Watching Trail identifies 13 sites and 5 driving routes through which keen birdos have the prospect of seeing close to 300 species. These include species such as Malleefowl, woodland species such as Grey-crowned babblers, Painted honeyeaters, Hooded robins, Speckled warblers and of course a wide range of wetland species including Painted snipe and Brolgas. The region is well known for its birds of prey as well.

Financial assistance with printing the Guide was forthcoming from Dubbo City Council, Narromine and District Chamber of Commerce, Coonamble and Walgett Shire Councils.
